Senior Engineer to our Frontend Core team

As a Senior Engineer in our Frontend Platform team, you’ll be helping build the frontend development platform at Pleo and support all our frontend engineers.

We’re looking for engineers with a strong interest in building and owning systems and tools, who love to be at the forefront of all things Frontend, and are not afraid to try new initiatives or to pioneer an innovative new tool.

You’ll join a small distributed team that designs, evolves, and maintains the Frontend ecosystem that enables our web application development.

Our roadmap adapts to the needs of the business and our Frontend engineers, and you’ll need to too, but here are a few projects that we have, are or will be working on:

  • Enable incremental improvements to our Frontend tooling and technology stack (Using for example tRPC, AWS Lambdas and backend for frontend (BFF) patterns)
  • Implementing a monorepo setup for our Frontend (using Turborepo)
  • Test framework and setup

You are a good match for this role if you always have our customers’ needs at the forefront of your mind, and are not afraid of the scope and challenge a team like this represents.

What you’ll do (a few more of the specifics):

  • Advise product teams at Pleo on Frontend architecture and technologies – you may sometimes be embedded in the product teams
  • Influence and evolve the long term vision of Frontend at Pleo – you’ll innovate and implement at the same time
  • Improve the development experience of our engineers by enabling fast feedback loops, reliable CI infrastructure, and the promotion of best-practices
  • Own core functionalities, components, and tools in our Frontend platform that let product teams focus on building great experiences for our customers
  • Help build and foster a company-wide community of people interested in Frontend engineering

You know your way around

  • React
  • GitHub
  • TypeScript
  • Monorepos
  • Frontend testing

Your colleagues say you

  • Thrives in a remote first environment
  • Work in English with ease (it's our company language)
  • Care about quality in all aspects of your work
  • Somehow manage to stay on top of the ever-changing modern Frontend ecosystem
  • Are comfortable venturing outside of the Frontend technologies 😱
  • Have experience solving complex technical challenges at scale
  • Coach others to help them develop as engineers
  • Are motivated by the needs of our users (internally and externally)
  • Would be a person that they would actually like to have a coffee with (virtual or not)
  • Find a way to debate the merits of server vs client side rendering in the aforementioned
  • You can discuss pros and cons of tech and architectural choices, e.g. Monorepo vs non-monorepo setup and Micro-frontends vs monolithic frontend

But most importantly

Even if you don’t check every box here, you’re committed to investing in new skills to help you be and do your best at work.

Why join us?

Working at Pleo means you're working on something very exciting: the future of work. Our mission is to help every company go beyond the books. Pleo itself means ‘more than you’d expect’, and it’s been the secret to our success over the last 8 years. So it’s only fitting that we’d pass this philosophy onto our customers to help them make the most of their finances.

We think company spending should be delegated to all employees and teams, that it should be as automated as possible, and that it should drive a culture of responsible spending. Finance teams shouldn’t be siloed from the rest of the organisation – they should work in unity with marketing, sales, IT and everyone else.

Speaking of working in unity, our values tell the story of how we work at Pleo. We have four core values, the first of which is ‘champion the customer’, which means we address real pain points that businesses face. Next up is ‘succeed as a team’, which highlights how our strength lies in our diversity and trust in each other. We also ‘make it happen’ by taking bold decisions and following through to deliver results. Last but not least, we ‘build to scale’, creating lasting solutions that address today’s challenges and anticipate tomorrow’s needs.

So, in a nutshell, that's Pleo. Today we are a 850+ team, from over 100 nations, sitting in our Copenhagen HQ, London, Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid, Montreal and Lisbon offices —and quite a few full-time remotes in 35 other countries! Being HQ'd out of Copenhagen means we're inspired by things like a good work-life balance. If you don't work in the office with us, we'll help you set up the best remote setup possible and make sure you still have time to connect with your team.
