About the role

We're looking for a Staff DevSecOps Engineer to join our Security team at Pleo. In this role, you'll help build secure infrastructure and tooling, define how our engineers ship secure code at scale, and be part of a growing security organisation supporting a product that handles sensitive financial data. If you're excited about embedding security into modern infrastructure and pipelines – and are passionate about balancing risk and innovation – then this is the opportunity for you!


What you’ll be doing

As a Staff DevSecOps Engineer, you will:

  • Define and lead our infrastructure and pipeline security vision – including automation, guardrails, and golden paths.

  • Own Infrastructure-as-Code security policies and build automation to remediate misconfigurations.

  • Dive deep into security for Kubernetes and AWS, and implement controls to harden our cloud and cluster environments.

  • Collaborate closely with Developer Experience and SRE teams to build secure CI/CD practices.

  • Drive organisation-wide initiatives for secure cloud and DevOps practices.

  • Coach and support engineering teams on secure deployment strategies and configuration best practices.

  • Prioritise and manage the security roadmap within your area of expertise.


What you bring

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset – you know security is a team sport.

  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving – you design secure systems that are still usable.

  • Deep knowledge of cloud platforms and security hardening techniques, particularly AWS and Kubernetes.

  • Experience automating security checks in CI/CD pipelines.

  • A strong foundation in at least one programming language (Python, Kotlin, TypeScript, Golang).

  • A passion for complex systems and applying creative thinking to technical challenges.

  • A growth mindset – you enjoy learning and tackling new domains.

Experience with the following is a bonus:

  • Securing JVM-based applications (e.g. Java or Kotlin).

  • Familiarity with PCI DSS, PSD2, GDPR or related technical compliance areas (e.g. segmentation, authentication).


Who you’ll be working with and reporting to

You’ll report to our Head of Security Engineering and work closely with teams in DevX, SRE, and Platform Engineering. Our Security Engineering team is a group of specialists supporting product teams through secure platform building, automation, and coaching. You’ll collaborate widely to build scalable and secure infrastructure practices across Pleo.


How you’ll develop in this role

In your first 6 months at Pleo, you’ll:

  • Lead security automation initiatives within infrastructure and deployment pipelines.

  • Define and execute a roadmap for DevSecOps at Pleo, aligning security with our product growth.

  • Partner with engineering teams to build secure-by-default solutions into our systems and tools.
